Sketchup Use Fast Feedback

(thoughtful music)- [Voiceover] Hello and welcome toSketch Up Rendering using V-Ray 2.My name is Brian Bradley,and I'm really looking forward to making use of thispowerful lighting and rendering solution forSketch Up as we work together through this course.As the course has been in part designed to help us get upand running with the V-Ray render engine in Sketch Up,we will in chapter one take a look at how and wherewe can locate V-Ray tools and controls insidethe Sketch Up user interface.

We will then move on to taking a look at V-Ray'sextremely powerful and versatile lighting tool set,learning, essentially,how to add illumination to our scenes.This will include an examination of the V-Raysun and sky tools that can be used to addnatural looking daylight to our renders,as well as some of the V-Ray light types that can be usedto mimic more artificial looking or man-made light sources.Global illumination is of course an extremely importantaspect of photographic lighting and rendering,and so we will for sure want to spend sometime working with V-Ray's powerful GI systems.

Chapter three then will help round out our understandingof the lighting tool set available in V-Ray.We will also want to spend quite a bit oftime working with V-Ray's material options,and so we will take a look in this courseat using not only the older,standard material type in V-Ray for Sketch Up,but also at the newer V-Ray material from BRDF layer,using both of these options to recreatesome useful, real world surface types thatwill include working with diffuse coloration,as well as reflective and refractive material properties.

As we are going to be utilizing V-Rayas a virtual photography studio,we are going to want to put some of it's more effectsoriented tools to work so as to add an extralevel of believability to our renders.As we have all of this and quite a bit more to get through,if you are ready to build up you Sketch Uprendering skills and explore the creativefreedom that comes from using V-Ray,let's go ahead and dive right in.

I've recently bought the Microsoft Surface Book 2 (15 inch, I7, 16gb ram with GTX 1060)

I'm loving the laptop so far, but I've run into somewhat of a problem.

I'm an interior design student and would like to use sketchup in the tablet mode to present my work.

Basically I want to use It as an extra communication tool towards my teachers.

So I don’t want do to any extensive work or something, just display the 3D model.

Sketchup start up fine, however I'm unable to open or display a model, the actual workspace just remains grey.

Even the default empty 'new file' doesn’t show up, just a gray workspace, see screenshot below.

Is there a way to fix this?

I specifically bought this laptop for itspurported flexibility and to make my workflow easier, only to find out that it doesn’t work…

Considering I could get a regular non detachable laptop with the similar specs for far less money, I'm really hoping for a quick solution.

Especially since I’ve only got until next week to decide if I’m going to keep the surfacebook 2 or return it.
